On behalf of all our staff and volunteers, we welcome you to LOROS. We are here to help you so please do let any of our staff know if you have any questions or concerns at any time.
Face masks are not currently mandatory; however during the Autumn and Winter season, when visiting friends and loved ones in the ward area of the Hospice, you may be asked to wear a mask.
All visiting should be between 11.00 – 20:00
All visitors will be asked to sign-in at main reception and to use the hand gel provided. New visitors will be escorted to the Ward by a volunteer and will be asked to wait in the social area while they check the patient is able to accept visitors.
Patients can have two visitors at the bedside at any one time.
When patients are in the last days of life we will support additional visits.
If a patient has suspected or confirmed COVID-19, visiting is allowed, however there are special requirements so please speak to the Nurse in Charge.

Sometimes patients may need to limit their visitors, especially when very tired – rest can be very important. Please do not be disappointed if this happens.
We acknowledge and respect that in many communities and cultures it is customary for extended families and friends to visit the sick and dying. Where a large group of people (who aren’t immediate family) would like to visit at the same time, this should be agreed in advance with a member of staff so that arrangements can be made to reduce any effect on other patients.
As a visitor to the Ward, please ensure you wash your hands and use the gel hand cleanser (available throughout the Hospice) on entering and leaving this area to reduce the risk of infection to patients and visitors.
Our pledge to patients and families is to treat them with dignity and respect at all times. Our staff and volunteers deserve this in return. During your visit, please respect all staff, volunteers, patients and other visitors. Abuse or aggression of any kind will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave the premises.
Patient and family car parking is available at the front of the Hospice and there is additional parking for visitors to the rear of the site. There is also a patient drop-off and collection point available to the front of the Hospice.
LOROS operates a 5mph speed limit, and the main car park to the side of the Hospice operates a one-way system. Vehicles and their contents are parked entirely at the owners’ risk.
All visitors and relatives should sign in and out of the visitors' book at main reception. For your safety and that of our staff, CCTV operates within the building and its grounds.
LOROS operates a strict no smoking policy within its buildings and grounds. There is a designated smoking and vaping area, please ask at reception for the location of this.
Mobile phones may be used within the Hospice, however please consider other patients and visitors and make your calls away from patient areas if possible.
In the event of the fire alarm sounding, a member of Hospice staff will advise what action to take. Please be aware that any open doors will automatically close when the fire alarm sounds.
There is a café ran by volunteers in the social area where you can purchase food and drinks. When this is closed we also have vending machines which can be used
For visitors staying overnight in the relatives’ suite and wishing to purchase food, please see the hospitality assistant.
There is a shop in the reception area where you can purchase a selection of snacks, cold drinks, small gifts, cards and newspapers. This is usually open from 9am–7pm.
There is a dedicated children’s play room with toys in our social area. For their own safety, children must have adult supervision at all times.
Cultural and religious provision
LOROS acknowledges the many different diverse faith communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
We try and make every effort to ensure that patients’ and families’ religious and spiritual needs are met while they are under our care.
LOROS has a Spiritual Care Chaplaincy Team which offers spiritual and religious support to families of all faiths and those who have none. The team has chaplains representing the main faiths in Leicester - Christianity, Islam, Hindu, Sikh and we can arrange for representative of a number of other faiths to visit if required.

This room is for anyone to use for praying and to have some quiet reflection time. It is open 24 hours a day.
Ritual washing facilities, before prayers, are available for those that need them.
In the cabinet outside the prayer room there are religious artefacts of some of the faiths practised in our local community, as well as holy books and CDs. These are available for patients and families to use.
