It’s six years since 18-year-old Leah Beth Reek died in the Hinckley Road explosion. Such a tragic loss of a young woman with so much future in front of her was incredibly painful but Leah’s family have found strength in supporting the charity so close to Leah’s heart.

Jo Reek, Leah’s mum, said: “After she died so suddenly and tragically, a family friend suggested we do the LOROS Twilight Walk as we wanted to honour Leah and do something positive at such a desperately sad time, making Leah proud by raising money for the place she loved.

The Twilight Walk, a 10k walk around Leicester city centre, raises vital funds for the hospice’s patients and their families. This year it’s taking place on Saturday 29th June, and Leah’s whole family will be there to honour her memory.

“We look forward to walking in Leah’s memory every year. The atmosphere is so positive and fun, just like Leah, and we know she is with us every step of the way.”

This year the Twilight Walk theme is Superheroes, which makes the event even more poignant for Jo and her family.

“Leah really was our superhero. She inspires us every day to carry on being positive. She was loved by all who knew her; she was kind, caring, and fun”, adds Jo.

Jo and her family are encouraging everyone to come along to on 29th June to honour their loved ones in a poignant moment of reflection as the Walk begins.

“We all love the build-up before the walk with music, and it’s a wonderful time to reflect for everyone who has lost a loved one. We always have a few tears but stand strong together, and it is an emotional but very uplifting experience.

“The Twilight Walk is a very special event, and we love taking part. It brings friends together to remember our own superhero, Leah Beth Reek, who we all love and miss so much.”
