DONATE TO LOROS

Can you give every month to help us be here every day?

Being diagnosed with a terminal illness is devastating, and turns a family’s world upside down. What becomes important is making the most of the days, weeks and months left.

By supporting us with a regular gift today, you will be helping us to ensure we can continue caring for patients and their families, not just today but in the future too.

You can choose to donate as little as £5 a month, which can provide a day of meals for a patient, materials for creative therapy or even pain relieving medication. It’s all set up through direct debit, so it couldn’t be easier for you to help our patients.

By setting up a regular donation to LOROS today, you could provide the comfort and reassurance our patients need at end of life. Make a difference today and for the years to come.

The difficulty we face...

These remain difficult times for us all. The Coronavirus pandemic is our biggest ever challenge. Fundraising is severely interrupted - events have had to be cancelled and our charity shops have been closed to our loyal supporters.

Here at the Hospice, we focused on keeping our patients and staff safe whilst still delivering the best quality care. It has cost us £3.50 per nurse, per week to ensure that we have the wipes, gloves and hand sanitiser to prevent the spread of infection and keep everyone safe.

Our staff have worked around the clock, adapting how they deliver their compassionate care through the barriers that PPE presents. For many, this has been the biggest challenge of all; not being able to hug or hold a hand. Instead, nurses have read final goodbye messages to patients from their loved ones that are unable to visit.. It’s been truly remarkable.

We have approached the lifting of restrictions with optimism and hope. Our shops have been able to reopen, we’re working hard to get our events back on track and we’re excited about the ability to start fundraising in our communities once again. But, every day is still shadowed by the long-term and continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning that your support has never been more appreciated. Your help enables us to be here, providing care for our patients and making a difference when it matters the most. Thank you for choosing LOROS - we’re here because of you.

With your help, we can reduce that risk and continue to be here for patients like Gwen, Richard and Geoff. We have never needed your support more than we do today.

LOROS has made such a difference; it’s been such an exhausting few years.

STORIES

Gwen’s Story

For people like Gwen, LOROS Day Therapy has turned her life around. 12 months ago, every day was a battle for her. She was very low and life had become a cocktail of appointments, operations and emotions. One year on and she says spending time at the Hospice has lifted her up. She feels like a person again, not just another number, as she jokes and laughs with staff and fellow patients – something she says is therapy in itself.

£5 per month could enable patients to make beautiful arts and crafts to create memories and gifts for their loved ones.

STORIES

Richard’s Story

I think the Home Visiting Service is absolutely great. Beforehand, I was sitting at home in my chair and never went out; now I’m guaranteed to go out at least once a week, with my home visitor. She brings her dog with her and we go for dog walks together; I love animals, so this really suits me. I look forward to her visit, we’ve developed quite the friendship and as the weeks go on, the better we get on. To be honest, I think I’d be lost without her now.

£12 per month could pay for an hour’s home visit to a patient and their loved ones at home, giving their carers previous time to do other things.

STORIES

Geoff’s Story

The staff and volunteers are just lovely, they’re all brilliant and they always have a smile on their face. I just ring my buzzer if I need anything, even during the night and there’s always somebody there. It’s peace of mind, not just for me but for my family too, to know that I’m in safe hands. LOROS really is a home from home, not just for patients but for their loved ones.

£25 per month could pay for an hour of care which means we can preserve the dignity of our patients through offering help with bathing, dressing and eating.
