Christmas at LOROS

Everyone has Christmas traditions. Whether it's a trip to the pub on Christmas Eve or gathering to watch The Grinch in matching festive pyjamas, these rituals are part of what makes Christmas special. They are deeply personal, shaped by the people we love and the memories we create together. 

When someone we love is no longer with us, those traditions inevitably change. They become treasured memories that return each Christmas, reminding us of the moments we shared and influencing the traditions we pass on to future generations. 

At LOROS, many patients may be facing their last Christmas with family and friends. Our nurses work tirelessly to make that time as special as possible. Once a loved one is in our care, families are often relieved of many of the practical responsibilities of caring, allowing them to focus on what matters most. They can simply be a daughter, a son, a husband, a wife, a parent or a friend again. 

Families often tell us that the time they spent together under our care created lasting and positive memories. Whether it's helping a family celebrate Christmas a few weeks early—with a turkey dinner, stockings and all the festive trimmings—or supporting patients at home through our community nursing service so they can spend Christmas in familiar surroundings, LOROS does everything it can to help families make the most of every precious moment together. 

These memories become increasingly precious as time passes. 

At such an emotional time of year, that's a gift that can’t be wrapped.

"Christmas was always Mum’s favourite time of year, and she made it special for us for as long as I can remember. When we found out Mum was terminally ill, we knew there was a chance she wouldn’t make it to Christmas, so we decided to bring Christmas forward to October and celebrate it together as a family. We created our own Christmas Day for her, and she loved it. After all those years of Mum making Christmas special for us, it felt important that we could make that last one special for her."
