LOROS TRAINING
Course information
This course combines a pre-learning workbook and two days training. Participants have the opportunity to develop and practise advanced communication skills in a safe and supportive environment. Participants set the agenda for both days by identifying challenging communication situations they experience at work. These challenges are recreated with actors playing different roles such as a patient, family member or colleague for delegates to practice key skills and principles, receive constructive feedback and test out alternative strategies.
Training takes place in our dedicated facilities and includes experiential learning methods such as role play with professional simulated patients (actors). These sessions are digitally recorded, reviewed, and analysed to support reflection, feedback, and skills development.

Please join us at the LOROS' Centre for Excellence, Leicester at 09:15 registration for a 09:30 prompt start. Refreshments and lunch will be provided throughout the day.
Please note that due to course content the finish time may vary around 17:30hrs

Who is this course recommended for?
As a Tier 3 course, it is most suitable for clinicians who wish to build advanced communication capability. They have previous communication skills training or substantial experience who regularly engage in challenging discussions involving prognosis, uncertainty, conflict, distress and shared decision-making.
Registered nurses / allied health and social care professionals (band 6 (NHS) equivalent and above).
We will also consider applications from registered healthcare professionals working below a band 6, but who can demonstrate that they are working in a specialist area and require training to undertake more complex communication tasks.
It is advisable that if you have experienced a close bereavement with the last 12 months that you do not apply for this course.
Please note delegates must complete the full two days and undertake a videoed simulation to receive their certificate of attendance

Reflect on your current skills, examine specific approaches, practicing new skills while receiving positive and constructive feedback in a safe and supportive environment
Increase confidence in responding to common communication challenges such as breaking bad news, initiating end of life conversations and handling strong emotions such as anger and distress
It is essential delegates attend both days and undertake a videoed simulation.
Cancellation Policy
• Cancellations made more than 20 working days prior to delivery – no charge
• Cancellations made within 10-20 working days prior to delivery – 50% of cost.
• Cancellations made less than 10 working days prior to delivery – 100% of course cost.
• Non-attendance – 100% of course cost.
