In memory of John Dobson, Alice Dobson and her family took on the Altra Brighton Half Marathon on 1st March 2026, raising an incredible £3,778.15. Determined to honour their dad’s life and give back in a meaningful way, the family embraced this challenge together in their LOROS running vests – even though some had never run close to the half marathon distance before!
Alice shares:
"Our lovely dad, John, died peacefully at LOROS after only a 6 week tough battle with cancer. It was such a privilege to experience the kindness and compassion from all the team at LOROS during such a tough time for our family. They made our Dads final days so special, including a trip to Bradgate Park to celebrate his birthday! To show our gratitude, we wanted to do something as a family in memory of John and give back to LOROS. We therefore decided that running the Brighton half marathon would be the perfect challenge for us all. As some of us had never ran close to that distance, it made it the perfect fundraiser - John would always talk about PMA (positive mental attitude) and this would definitely test ours!
As a family, we’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated & to those who cheered us on during the rainy day!"
A note of thanks from LOROS:
We are incredibly grateful to Alice and her lovely family for their dedication and generosity. Their support in memory of John makes a real difference, and we thank them for helping to ensure that other families can experience the same comfort and care that meant so much to them.
