After taking on the Great Wall of China Trek for LOROS in 2024, Matt was inspired to continue supporting the hospice alongside his friend Mark by tackling an even bigger challenge – the epic Chase the Sun North cycle ride.
Setting off from Whitley Bay at sunrise and aiming to reach Ayr before sunset, the pair cycled an amazing 202 miles in just 14 hours and 30 minutes, climbing over 12,500 feet along the way.
Their day began at 4:25am in heavy rain before the weather cleared, allowing them to enjoy stunning scenery, challenging climbs, winding country lanes and even a few curious sheep. After an unforgettable journey, they crossed the finish line in Ayr at around 8:30pm.
Inspired by the remarkable people they met while taking part in the Great Wall of China Trek for LOROS, Matt and Mark wanted to continue giving back after hearing about the fundraising challenges facing the hospice. Together, they have raised over £3,400 to help ensure LOROS can continue providing compassionate care and support to local patients and their families.
A huge thank you to Matt and Mark for their outstanding achievement, determination and continued support of LOROS. We are incredibly grateful for everything they have done and hope they are enjoying a very well-earned rest!
