36 Young People, 100+ Miles, One Incredible Weekend for LOROS

Over the weekend of 12-13 September, 36 young people from Leire & Dunton Scout Group took on an extraordinary challenge: to walk the entire length of the Leicestershire Round long-distance footpath in just one weekend.

The challenge marked a special milestone as the group celebrated its 40th anniversary, but it was about far more than miles walked. The young people, leaders, helpers and families came together to raise funds for LOROS Hospice, a charity that holds a special place in the hearts of the Scout Group and one of its dedicated leaders.

Together, they achieved something truly remarkable.

The journey was split across the sections, with the Beavers walking more than 25 miles between Aston Flamville and Foxton Locks, the Cubs covering another 25 miles between Foxton Locks and Burrough Hill, and the Scouts completing the remaining 50-plus miles from Burrough Hill back to Aston Flamville. In total, over 100 miles were walked across the weekend.

Along the way there were countless stories of determination, resilience and teamwork. Despite tired legs and challenging distances, the young people embraced every step with enthusiasm and positivity. There were very few complaints, plenty of smiles, and an overwhelming sense of pride as each section completed its part of the challenge.

After a day of walking, the group came together to camp overnight at John's Lee Wood. Wide games, laughter and enthusiastic campfire singing created memories that will stay with the young people for years to come, proving that some of the best moments happen when people come together with a shared purpose.

This incredible achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of the section leaders, whose planning and organisation ensured the weekend ran smoothly, and the unwavering support of parents, carers and volunteers who gave their time, energy and encouragement throughout the challenge.

Most importantly, the group's efforts have so far raised more than £1,200 for LOROS Hospice, helping to support local patients and families when they need it most.

At LOROS, we are incredibly grateful to everyone at Leire & Dunton Scout Group for choosing to support us. Every mile walked, every blister endured and every pound raised will help us continue providing compassionate care and support across our community.

The young people demonstrated courage, commitment and kindness throughout the weekend, embodying the very best of what can be achieved when a community comes together for a cause it believes in.

To all the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, leaders, helpers and families involved: thank you. You have not only raised vital funds, but also inspired us with your determination, teamwork and generosity.

Congratulations on an incredible achievement and a wonderful way to celebrate 40 years of Scouting. We are proud to have been part of your journey. 💜
