In July 2026, a group of close friends came together to celebrate the life of their dear friend, Angela Skelton, while raising vital funds for LOROS.
The friends first met through a local NCT coffee group in the early 2000s when their children were babies and toddlers. Over the years, their friendship continued to flourish as their children grew up, and they regularly met as part of an NCT Book Group, of which Angela was one of the key organisers.
Sadly, Angela was diagnosed with cancer in her early fifties. During the later stages of her illness, she received care and support from LOROS before passing away in July 2016.
To mark the ten year anniversary, the group wanted to do something special in her memory while supporting the hospice that had cared for her. After discussing several ideas, they decided that a garden tea party felt like the perfect tribute. Angela was a keen baker who loved tea and cake, making the event a fitting celebration of her life.
Amy, one of the group's members, kindly offered to host the tea party in her beautiful garden in Anstey. In the lead-up to the event, the seven friends worked tirelessly, selling tickets, sourcing raffle prizes, making crafts to sell, organising games and baking a delicious selection of cakes and treats.
Held on Sunday 26th July 2026, the event welcomed around 70 family members and friends. Thankfully, the weather was kind, allowing guests to spend the afternoon enjoying the garden, catching up with friends and family, taking part in activities and, of course, enjoying plenty of tea and homemade cake.
The afternoon proved to be a wonderful success and, thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended and supported the event, an incredible £1,740 was raised for LOROS.
The tea party was a touching tribute to Angela and a reflection of the strong friendships she helped create. It provided an opportunity for people to remember and celebrate her life while raising funds to help others facing serious illness.
From everyone at LOROS, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Amy and all of Angela's friends for organising such a special event in her memory. We'd also like to thank everyone who donated raffle prizes, baked cakes, bought tickets and attended on the day. Your kindness and generosity will help us continue providing free, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients and their families across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
We are incredibly grateful that you chose to honour Angela's memory by supporting LOROS, and we hope you are all immensely proud of what you achieved together.
