Classic Cars, Big Hearts: Mountsorrel Drives for LOROS

Gallery

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Mountsorrel on 9 August as a spectacular collection of classic and vintage vehicles took part in the village's Revival Parade, all in support of LOROS.

Organised by Ian Shonk, the unique fundraising event invited members of the public to secure a seat in one of 20 classic vehicles in exchange for a donation to LOROS. With an incredible selection of cars on display, including a 1936 Alvis Silver Eagle, a 1960 Convertible Cadillac, a beach buggy and even a racing hot rod, there was truly something for every motoring enthusiast.

For a £25 donation, participants enjoyed a memorable experience that included a professional photoshoot at Stonehurst Farm, a place in the parade through Mountsorrel in front of thousands of spectators, and a countryside cruise around the local area before returning to the farm.

The event proved hugely popular, with every available seat being snapped up. Ian reported that the only disappointment from attendees was not being able to secure a place before they sold out!

Thanks to the generosity of those taking part, Parade-Rides 2026 raised an incredible £1,120 for LOROS, surpassing its fundraising target of £1,000.

The success of the event was only possible thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers and supporters. Special thanks go to Jo Liversidge, who coordinated bookings and communications, along with the volunteer crew on the day, including marshals, photographers and flag-bearer Natalie. We would also like to thank Tom Duffin and the team at Stonehurst Farm for allowing the use of the venue and for bringing the farm's historic Charabanc bus out of the museum especially for the occasion.

Everyone at LOROS would like to express their sincere thanks to Ian, the vehicle owners, volunteers, passengers and supporters who helped make the event such a fantastic success. Not only did it raise vital funds for patient care, but it also created lasting memories for everyone involved.

With such an overwhelmingly positive response from drivers, passengers and spectators alike, organisers are already looking ahead to making Parade-Rides an annual fixture in the Mountsorrel calendar.
