Sawubona 2025: promoting equity through research in palliative care

On Tuesday 6th May 2025, LOROS, in association with Hospice UK and the Good Grief Festival, proudly hosted the Sawubona (We See You) Annual Conference, an event dedicated to advancing equity in palliative care through rigorous research and inclusive dialogue.

Chaired by Dr Zoebia Islam, the programme opened with a thought-provoking plenary from Dr Libby Sallnow, exploring insights from The Lancet Commission on the Value of Death. The day unfolded with sessions, including bereavement care, equity-focused research, and the voices of next generation scholars.

Highlights included powerful contributions from community researchers, frontline clinicians, and academics addressing urgent topics such as informal bereavement support, the impact of immigration policies, and end-of-life care for ethnically diverse populations.

The conference closed with a moving exploration of underrepresented experiences—from Windrush elders in care homes to bereaved refugees—reinforcing the forum's mission: to see, listen, and act for all communities.
