Centre for Excellence update

On Tuesday 29th April, Dr Zoebia Islam was invited to attend the ‘Clinical and Workforce Leaders Conference - Innovation research, and collaboration: the future of work’ hosted by Hospice UK. Zoebia discussed work from our homegrown Centre for Excellence research: The CRISIS project - Conversations around serious illness readiness.

This focused on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on extremely clinically vulnerable end stage kidney disease patients from ethnically diverse backgrounds, family carers and healthcare professionals’ readiness and willingness around end of life care planning. By drawing on the findings from this study, steps to developing an equitable and inclusive approach to end of life care planning were explored. Zoebia felt the conference was inspiring, and said “there was a real call for action to reflect and work towards sector-wide issues, such as an increase in demand for palliative and end of life services, and unmet significant financial pressures, also highlighting opportunities in clinical practice that lie ahead. Lots of food for thought!"
