Raising Awareness for Pancreatic Cancer – a personal story of loss

This November, we’re shining a light on Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month by sharing the deeply personal story of one of our own. Lesley Brant, from our Domestic team, tragically lost her son Lee to pancreatic cancer in 2022, just six months after his diagnosis. Her loss has highlighted how aggressive and silent this disease can be, often detected too late for effective treatment.

Lesley has asked LOROS to share her and Lee’s story and, in doing so, we aim to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer—encouraging early detection, research, and support for those affected.

The story is in development and we’ll be sharing her full story on our Facebook page on Sunday 17th November (the Sunday closest to Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day) and will add it to this page then. In the meantime, here’s a snapshot.

Thank you to Lesley for taking the time and trouble to share her experiences.

Lesley's story

December 2021, Christmas Day: Lee develops a bad pain in his chest as well as back pain.

3rd January 2022: Lee is admitted to hospital, and is sent home with pancreatitis

9th January – 6th February: Lee is admitted to hospital, undergoes operation and in ICU

7th February: Lee comes home for his 32nd birthday

11th February: Hospital appointment confirms pancreatic cancer

May: Chemo starts on a low dose

July: Lee is drastically losing weight so I insist on a CT scan

29th July: Confirmation that his cancer has spread and he has 3-6 months to live

19th August: Lee is admitted to LOROS

26th August: Lee dies.

My son lived for 6 months from diagnosis. He literally wasted away in front of me. I feel like pancreatic cancer is the forgotten cancer. I’m going to be forever heartbroken.
