We had some very special visitors to the Hospice recently, as staff and pupils from Meadow View Farm School in Barwell joined us so we could celebrate an amazing year of fundraising for LOROS.
To mark our 40th anniversary, the school set themselves the ambitious challenge of completing 40 acts of kindness for LOROS – everything from coffee mornings and handmade ornaments to marathon challenges and plenty more in between.
They originally hoped to raise £10,000. Now, with all 40 acts complete, they’ve raised an incredible £18,000+ for LOROS!
The challenge has involved the whole school community, with pupils coming up with their own fundraising ideas and taking a really active role in making them happen.
School Director Ryan Kilby said the challenge had become much bigger than they ever expected, with friends, families, parents and the wider community all getting behind it. He also shared how inspiring it had been to see pupils organising their own events and gaining new skills and experiences along the way.
The achievement has particular significance for Ryan, who has a personal connection with LOROS stretching back more than 20 years. His mum was cared for at the Hospice in 2004, and his father-in-law was also cared for by LOROS during Covid. Since then, Ryan has supported us in lots of different ways – from the Great North Run to the Skegness Bike Ride.
And this latest challenge even saw Ryan say goodbye to his famous top knot in the name of fundraising!
