LOROS needs you more now than ever

Dear supporter,

I’m writing to share some positive news about our inpatient ward at LOROS Hospice — and to thank you for the role you’ve played in helping us get here.

Last summer was an incredibly challenging time. Rising costs and a growing deficit meant we had to make the difficult decision to reduce our ward capacity from 31 beds to 18, impacting the care we could provide to patients and their families.

Thanks to short-term winter pressures funding from the NHS, alongside the generosity of our local community, we were able to reopen four beds on a temporary basis in November. Today, I’m delighted to confirm that not only will those beds remain open permanently, but we are also reopening two additional beds.

This means more people in our community can receive the specialist palliative and end-of-life care they need, when they need it most.

We’ve already seen the difference these beds make. Patients like Richard, who arrived at LOROS in severe pain, have been able to have their symptoms expertly managed by our team — allowing them to return home in comfort. Stories like his remind us why this work matters so deeply.

But there is more to do.

We are still unable to open all 31 of our beds — not because the need isn’t there, but because the funding simply doesn’t allow it. Demand for our specialist care is high, particularly as our population ages. The reality is that people who need hospice care do not have time to wait.

That’s why I’m asking for your continued support.

Your generosity has already helped us achieve so much. With your help, we can go further — reopening the remaining beds and ensuring that more patients and families in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland receive the compassionate, expert care they deserve at the end of life.

At any point, it could be someone close to you who needs our care.

If you are able, please consider making a donation today and helping us be there for everyone who needs us.

Thank you, as always, for standing with LOROS.

Best wishes
