LOROS Twilight Walk returns for 2016

More than a thousand women are once again set to take to the streets of Leicester this April for the annual LOROS Twilight Walk.

LOROS is pleased to announce the 10km route, which last year raised more than £40,000 for the Groby Road Hospice, will be returning on Saturday 9th April.

So dust off your tiaras ladies because with this year’s magical theme is ‘fairytale princesses’ and with our very own Prince Charming making an appearance at the event, this is one that you definitely do not want to miss out on.

Fundraising Co-ordinator for the event Laura Fitzsawyer said: “This is one of the biggest events in the LOROS calendar and it never fails to be a night full of fun.

“Last year, just over a thousand ladies took to the streets for LOROS and this year, we want to at least double that this time round.

“We’ve got more entertainment along the route this year, a magical carriageway for people to have their photo taken in at the start and of course, our mystery Prince Charming. “People can walk it, skip it, however they want to do it, it’s up to them; we just want the streets to be full of LOROS supporters that Saturday evening.

“So grab your sisters, mothers, grandmothers and friends and get ready for the biggest girls night out in Leicester.”

At the start of the event there will be the annual balloon release, where people will be able to write a special message on a pink balloon before releasing in memory of a loved one. One of the balloons from last year’s event was found thousands of miles away in Denmark.

“Although our annual Twilight Walk promises to be a night full fun and entertainment, of course we always take time to remember that a lot of the women walking are doing it in memory of somebody,” added Laura.

“The balloon release is one of the highlights of the evening because it gives the ladies the chance to remember their loved ones, even if they haven’t had any experience of LOROS.

“And for all those men, who are looking for something to do on the evening, we always need volunteers to help out at the event, we’ve got a job for all of you.”

Melanie Francis, of Cosby, said that the LOROS Twilight Walk is a great excuse to get the girls together and raise money for charity.

“I’ve done it for a few years now and every year, it’s just such a lovely evening,” said the 44-year-old.

“I bring my children along and we do it with my friend and her children, it’s great.

“I’ve already bought my dress for this year’s walk, I started looking for an outfit straight after last year’s event when I knew what the theme was.”

The event, which begins and ends at Leicester City’s King Power stadium, starts at 7.30pm and there will be refreshments waiting for participants as they cross the finish line. People can register for the special early bird price of £10, if they sign up before February 1st.
