Staff at LOROS Hospice – including nurses on the inpatient ward – swapped their uniforms for pyjamas yesterday, as part of a fundraiser celebrating the launch of a new charity sleepwear range.
The hospice-wide pyjama party marked the release of a special collection of women’s and children’s pyjamas inspired by Stomp Round Leicester, the hugely popular elephant art trail that recently brightened the city. The limited-edition sets are available online from Next, with 100% of profits going directly to LOROS.
Just last week, 40 giant elephant sculptures from the trail were auctioned off, raising vital funds for the hospice. Now, the launch of the themed pyjamas is helping keep the momentum – and the elephants – alive.
Camilla Barrow, interim CEO of LOROS Hospice, said: “Just when you thought we were done with elephants, we’re back with more! We’re absolutely delighted that Next is supporting us with these gorgeous pyjama sets. To celebrate the launch, we invited our staff to come to work in their PJs – and it’s been a huge hit!”
The initiative comes at a critical time for the charity, which is currently facing a £2 million funding shortfall due to a combination of rising costs and reduced income. Earlier this year, LOROS was forced to make the difficult decision to cut back some of its services.
Camilla said: “The Stomp Round Leicester trail introduced a whole new generation to LOROS and the vital role we play in the community. These fun pyjamas are a wonderful way to keep that spirit going while raising essential funds for our patient care. Let’s sell them out!”
The sight of nurses caring for patients while dressed in onesies, loungewear and elephant-themed pyjamas brought smiles to the faces of many patients and their visiting families.
Camilla added: “LOROS is all about making meaningful memories, and we certainly made a few today. It’s been a joyful way to raise awareness and support for the hospice.”
