Course information

This 3.5-day programme plus half day follow up, offers the opportunity to enhance your knowledge about the principles of palliative and end of life care.

Delegates will be supported to identify a small quality improvement project specific to their area of work, which will be presented to the group at the follow up half day.

November Cohort:

5th, 12th and 24th November 2026 - 9am to 5pm

Follow up 26th January 2027 - 9am to 1pm

(3 full days and 1 half day)

Who is this course recommended for?

Registered Nurses

(Senior Band 5, Band 6 and Band 7) working within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, from both primary and secondary Care.

Ideal for palliative and end of life care champions or link nurses.

Delegates must be nominated by their organisations

What will I learn from this course?

  •          Definitions of palliative and end of life care

  •          5 priorities for the care of the dying person

  •          The importance of recognising deterioration & dying

  •          Cultural and spiritual considerations at end of life

  •          Communication skills for important conversations

  •          The importance of future care planning

  •          Assessment & management of symptoms in the last days of life

  • The Importance of taking care of yourself when caring for others

A key focus of the programme is translating research and knowledge into practice

Delegates will be nominated by their organisations and supported to identify a small quality improvement project specific to their area of work, which will be presented to the group at a showcase afternoon approximately 8 weeks after the programme.
