It's great to see our Elephants in their new homes. We recently visited a school and spotted Funky Trunk!
To mark our 40th anniversary, Meadow View Farm School in Barwell set themselves a challenge: 40 acts of kindness for LOROS, completed across the academic year. We’re delighted to share that they’ve already raised over £10,000 – and they’re only halfway through the acts!
Meadow View Farm School supports children with social, emotional and health needs, and this project has been all about giving pupils ownership, purpose and the chance to contribute to something meaningful.
Director, Ryan Kilby, has a very personal connection to LOROS. He began fundraising for the hospice after his mum died at LOROS in 2004, just six weeks after her diagnosis. He was only 21 and in his final year of university. More recently, his wife’s dad was also cared for at LOROS during Covid.
Ryan said: "I heard in the media that LOROS were in a financial deficit and wanted to help. I thought about how if LOROS wasn't here my family wouldn't have been able to access the support that LOROS provides.
Everything is about LOROS for us this year. The aim was to make £10,000 which we've achieved already and we're only 50% of the way through the acts. It's really exciting to have got this far already."
Some of Meadow View’s acts of kindness so far include: supporting the LOROS Lottery, coffee mornings, handmade ornaments, walking the equivalent of a marathon and contributing to the Stomp Round Leicester Remember Me Elephant and bidding for Funky Trunk!
One standout moment? Ryan’s “Lop for LOROS” – bravely shaving off his famous top knot to raise funds for the hospice!
Ryan added: "There's lots in the pipeline for the remaining acts of kindness. We’re a small school but we pride ourselves on doing some big, amazing things.
Watch this space as more acts of kindness are underway! The school plan to hold a music event and their very own Stomp Round Leicester inspired event in the summer. Ryan said: "The Elephants' are what sparked our whole event so it makes complete sense."
We can't wait to see more on their remaining acts of kindness this year!
