Over the past month, we've seen so many wonderful examples of what makes LOROS such a special place. From helping Rachel and John celebrate their wedding in our hospice gardens, to giving Carol a joyful, music-filled send-off complete with dancing to The Time Warp, and ensuring John's 80th birthday was one to remember with cake, decorations and new friendships, our teams have gone above and beyond to create meaningful moments for patients and their loved ones.
We were also incredibly touched by the generosity of Day Hospice patient Farook, who kindly donated £200 to treat staff to cold drinks during the hot weather as a thank you for the care he'd received. These moments are a testament to the compassion, kindness and dedication shown by colleagues across LOROS every day. Thank you for everything you do to help patients live well, make precious memories and ensure every person in our care feels valued, supported and truly seen.
If you missed any of these stories on our social media channels, we have shared them below for you to take a look at.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make John's 80th birthday so special during his stay on our inpatient ward.
Just two days after arriving at LOROS, John celebrated his milestone birthday surrounded by new friends and a team determined to make the day one to remember. After striking up a friendship with fellow patient Andy, the team came together to decorate the ward, organise a chocolate cake and even find a sparkly tiara to help celebrate.
For John, it was about so much more than the birthday treats. Reflecting on his time at LOROS, he said: "Since I've been at LOROS it's been the best time of my life. I've made some great friends and have been treated tremendously by the staff. I only met Andy two days ago and we're already such good friends. I am so grateful."
Stories like John's are a reminder that the care we provide extends far beyond clinical support. It's the compassion, thoughtfulness and willingness to create moments of joy that make such a lasting difference to our patients and those around them.
A big thank you to our inpatient ward team for creating such special memories with Carol during her time at LOROS.
After learning how much Carol loved music and dancing, what began as a conversation soon turned into a daily tradition, with colleagues popping into her room to dance to some of her favourite songs, including Queen, Grease classics and, of course, The Time Warp.
When it was time for Carol to move to a nursing home, the team wanted to give her a send-off to remember. As she left her room, colleagues lined the corridor clapping and dancing to The Time Warp. Carol couldn't resist joining in, leaving with a huge smile on her face. The moment even touched the ambulance crew, who decided to keep the music playing on the journey to her new home.
It's a wonderful reminder that the care we provide is about so much more than meeting physical needs. By taking the time to get to know each person, we can create special moments that leave a lasting impact.
A huge congratulations to Rachel and John, who were married in our hospice gardens earlier this month, surrounded by family, friends and beautiful sunshine.
After being admitted to our inpatient ward just a few days earlier, Rachel and her partner of 24 years were able to celebrate their special day alongside their daughter, Lizzy, thanks to the incredible teamwork and compassion of colleagues across LOROS and beyond. As Rachel made her way from the ward to the ceremony, she and Lizzy were greeted with a touching guard of honour from the LOROS team.
Rachel, who is a Deputy Sister at Leicester General Hospital, shared how much the calm and supportive environment at LOROS has meant to her and her family during an incredibly difficult time, saying: "Everyone's been so amazing here, I feel it's the right place to be."
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make the day so memorable, and especially to the nurses on Ward 21 at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, who played such a key role in arranging the wedding.
Stories like this are a powerful reminder of the difference compassionate, person-centred care can make. By coming together to make special moments possible, you continue to help patients and their loved ones create precious memories that will last a lifetime.
