Extreme heat!

What a month of heatwaves, whilst its been beautiful, its also been very difficult to function for most of us. We never expected to put guidance together on what to do in extreme heat before- but this week our Senior Leadership team set out some advice to all services across the hospice and within our retail environments.

As a reminder to all volunteers, please follow all heatwave guidance and take steps to remain hydrated. If you feel uncomfortable or unwell to come in- please just let your manager know. Your health will always come first and we will try to take steps to adjust your role or make it easier for you in the heat. Take breaks and keep safe!

If you would like a full copy of the extreme heat procedures- please let us know and we can send it to you.

Stategy Q&A sessions

Invitation to strategy session with the Senior Leadership Team

We are pleased to invite you to take part in an upcoming workshop to help develop and shape our new organisational strategy, which is currently being led by Camilla Barrow, CEO.

This session is a valuable opportunity for our workforce and volunteers to come together, share ideas, and engage directly in discussions about our future direction. Your insights, experience, and perspectives are incredibly important, and we would really value your contribution.

You are invited to attend the following workshop:

  • Monday 20th July, 10.30am – 12.30pm

This workshop will be held in Twycross/Saunders, Centre for Excellence

The session will be interactive and collaborative, focusing on what matters most to our organisation, the communities we serve, and how we work together to deliver our mission.

Please let us know if you are able to attend by emailing RebeccaStevens@loros.co.uk

We hope you can join us and play an active role in shaping our future strategy.

The Reindeer Run 2026

In this heat you may not be thinking about the winter but... you can help us make this winter's Reindeer Run a festive success!

This winter, we're inviting schools, community groups, youth clubs and families across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to put on their antlers, get active and raise vital funds for LOROS Hospice.

As one of our amazing volunteers, you can help make Reindeer Run even more magical. Whether you're spreading the word in your local community or encouraging groups you know to sign up, your support will help local families when they need us most.

Taking part couldn't be easier. Groups choose their own date, distance and location during November or December, and we'll provide everything they need to make their fundraising a success, including:

  • Reindeer antlers for every child taking part (minimum sponsorship of £5 per child)

  • Sponsorship forms to help raise funds for LOROS

  • A certificate of achievement for every participant

  • The opportunity for a cheque presentation after the event

  • The chance for our mascot, Lionel, to join the fun and help start the run (subject to availability)

  • Festive bunting to decorate the route

  • Support setting up a JustGiving page

Every Reindeer Run helps raise essential funds so LOROS can continue caring for patients and supporting families across our community.

If you know a school, community group or family who would love a festive fundraising challenge, we'd be grateful if you could encourage them to get involved. Together, we can make this year's Reindeer Run the biggest and best yet!

Volunteering opportunities

Urgent help needed in retail – we are looking for shop volunteers in:

  • Hinckley

  • Coalville

  • Market Harborough

Please let us know if you can support the shops, or you can pop in directly and speak with their shop manager!

We also have a busy and exciting few weeks ahead with some wonderful opportunities to support LOROS in the community. If you’re available to help at any of the events below, we would really love to hear from you!

These events involve running a LOROS stall at a family fun day. The stall will be full of table top games and a tombola to attract the local community to get involved. This is a fundraising event and will need two volunteers. All items and equipment will be provided and will need to be collected from the Hospice the day before and then returned back to the Hospice. This is a fun and engaging way to connect with the community and raise funds for LOROS.
