LOROS progress pride lanyard

by Jackie Goss

LOROS is introducing a lanyard featuring both the LOROS logo and the colours of the Progress Pride flag!

If you've ever been in an environment where you don’t see someone like you represented, you'll know how good it feels to at last see a person or a symbol that does reflect you. At LOROS, we are making progress to create an environment where all people feel represented. The right environment, made up of symbols, images, words and behaviours, is fundamental to inclusion, and inclusion helps everyone to fully be themselves.

This is one reason that LOROS are proudly launching a Progress Pride themed lanyard. Seeing the Progress Pride colours will help staff, volunteers, customers, patients and their families feel at ease, feel seen and feel welcome.

The lanyards are based on inclusion and feature the colours of the traditional rainbow Gay Pride Flag, the Monica Helms Transgender Pride Flag colours and the 2017 Philadelphia Pride Flag.

Wearing a Progress Pride lanyard should be a sign that you respect and celebrate LGBTQIA+ patients, staff, volunteers and customers, are open to discussing difficulties that a person is facing with inclusion and that you will challenge discrimination towards LGBTQIA+ people at LOROS. You might either be in, or an ally of, the LGBTQIA+ community – anyone may wear a Progress Pride lanyard in order to show solidarity and respect.

When the accountability for Inclusion was added to my role last year it gave me a renewed environment, as I had new people to be working with closely and I threw myself into the work. This change of environment enabled me to unfurl myself and be open that I am bisexual, which is not something I’d previously been comfortable to do in any work environment. The new inclusive environment and conversations made me feel comfortable enough to be authentically myself - and I envisage a workplace where everyone feels as comfortable.

£1.50 is requested to cover the cost. To obtain a lanyard, from Monday 10 July please bring cash (exact change is preferred) to Louise Kiernan in her office. If you are not based in or able to come to the Hospice, please email Louise.
