Celebrating our diverse community

Men's Health (Movember)

Men will die on average 4.9 years earlier than women and for reasons that are largely preventable, which means that it doesn’t have to be that way. Movember have listed five ways men can give themselves the best chance at living a healthy and long life.

Movember is a charity focused on raising awareness locally and globally on men’s health, including mental health, suicide prevention, prostate and testicular cancer. It is all about supporting men live longer, healthier lives.

During November/Movember you may see more facial hair about, especially moustaches. The below link tells the story of how the moustache, or the mo, helped launch some of this important work.

International Men's Day

On November 19th, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. It is an opportunity to consider positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. See below for more information.

Interfaith Week

Interfaith Week 2025 will take place from Sunday 9th – Sunday 16th November.

Each year Interfaith week begins on Remembrance Sunday and runs until the following Sunday.

The three aims of the week are:

1.    Strengthening good interfaith relations at all levels

2.    Increasing awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in the UK, in particular celebrating and building on the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and wider society

3.    Increasing understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs

White Ribbon Day

25th November marks White Ribbon Day – a global awareness raising campaign to stop violence against women and girls. There is a focus on men and boys being key to stopping this, as active allies.

We speak up for change is the theme for 2025.

Letting sexism slide puts women and girls at risk. Sexist jokes, catcalling, staring, and comments might seem harmless, but they are not, and they can lead to violence and abuse.

White Ribbon Day is encouraging men to speak up and help create a world where women and girls are safe, equal, and respected.

Goodbye

Finally, a goodbye from me, your EDI Lead, as I will be leaving LOROS on Wednesday 10th December 2025. My two-year contract will end then so I will have to move on.

It has been an absolute privilege to work for LOROS, with all you amazing people – keep on doing what you do and being awesome, but please keep the need for inclusion at the heart of your work, especially with a changing Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and a fast-changing world.

I would love to stay connected with as many of you as possible, so if we have not exchanged contact details yet and you would like to, please drop me an email before I leave: jackienewcombe@loros.co.uk

Wishing you all well and really hoping I get an opportunity to come back and work alongside and with you all again in the future.
