We are delighted to announce that LOROS will soon be introducing the DAISY Award to recognise nurses who are caring, compassionate and make a difference to their patients.
DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation was formed in November 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalised profoundly touched his family and they developed the award as a way of recognising the value of nurses’ contributions.
LOROS will be the first hospice ever to be granted the ability to award this recognition, and this is thanks to our director of care, Jane Pickard who is an ambassador for DAISY and recently received a lifetime achievement award. The awards are also being funded by a kind and generous donation from a patient’s family.
Patients, families and carers can nominate a nurse or nursing associate for a DAISY Award so please keep an eye out for posters and flyers publicising it around the hospice. We hope to launch our awards at the end of November.
