Employees at the Loughborough based Leicestershire and Rutland Sport (LRS) have raised around £3,000 for the hospice LOROS in memory of a former colleague.

On Friday, January 27, 82 people signed up for the Monica’s Gold Challenge and rowed, cycled and ran around the SportPark over a combined 2012km.

It was in memory of Monica Gibbs, a former LRS employee who passed away in September.

By the end, a combined effort of 2074km was covered, which has now risen to 2139.91km following the addition of the kilometres covered by the people that couldn’t attend but took part at other locations.

A spokesperson for the LRS said: “The biggest thank you of the day must go to all those that took part. This was a great team effort and we hope to go on to even bigger and better things next year."

“We would also like to thank Concept 2 for providing the rowing machines, British Cycling, Team Cycles, Loughborough University and Leicester City Council for supplying Wattbikes and exercise bikes.

“GlaxoSmithKlein for donating drinks, Imago for donating bananas, Teresa Dalby for flapjacks, Volleyball England and the SportPark reception staff for their encouragement and LOROS and Gold Challenge for helping us with the logistics.”
