A blues band comprised of Leicester City fans has written a charity song to celebrate the club's promotion to the Premier League

The Beeliacs penned Blue Gold after the Foxes secured a place in football's top flight.

The five-strong outfit are to head into the studio this week to record the track and proceeds from the sale will go to The Stroke Association and the LOROS hospice in Leicester.

Lead singer Claire Shortland said: "I've been a City fan since the 1970s and I've been there through the promotions and the relegations.

"When they went up this time, it was great.

"We thought we would do a song specially to celebrate that.

"We also wanted to celebrate the amazing unbeaten run the team had before they came down with a bump against Brighton.

"By day, I work at as a special educational needs teacher at a primary school, and it was a sobering thought to realise that many of the children I work with have never seen us play the likes of Manchester United or Liverpool in the top flight.

"We really wanted to mark the fact that Leicester are back where they belong.

"We are now all hoping that they go up as champions.

"We are all City fans except for our keyboard player, Steve Billau.

"He's a Notts County fan, so it's good of him to do this."

The band, who formed in 2012 and play in venues across the county, chose to support LOROS because it is a local charity and The Stroke Association because Claire's mother suffered one before she died.

Bassist Paul Coulson said the band was "really excited" about taking part in the project.

"That we can hopefully raise a bit of money for LOROS and The Stroke Association at the same time is a bonus," he said.

The song is being recorded tomorrow and will be officially launched on May 3, the day of the last game of the season when Leicester play Doncaster Rovers at the King Power Stadium.

That night, the band will perform the song at Joule's Yard, in Market Harborough, at 8pm and the following day at the Littlethorpe Rocks music festival between 2.30pm and 3.10pm.

Blue Gold will be available to buy through iTunes, GooglePlay, AmazonMP3 and other download stores.
