It’s Hospice Care Week and LOROS is joining forces with more than 100 other hospices across the UK to help raise public awareness about the diversity of hospice care and highlight that it is available in many different settings beyond hospice buildings.

The fourth annual Hospice Care Week, organised by national charitable organisation Hospice UK, is taking place from Monday 6th October until Sunday 12th October. The week will coincide with a global hospice awareness day on Saturday 11th October - World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.

The theme of this year’s Hospice Care Week is ‘Hospice care, everywhere’. Our expert care is provided by a diverse team of specialist staff and dedicated volunteers. It is not only provided in hospice buildings, but also out in the local community in people’s own homes.

LOROS has a large team of Community Specialist Nurses (CNS) who visit patients at home, and Hospice Consultants also carry out home visits if needed. We also have a team of home visiting volunteers that go out and help patients and families in their own home.

LOROS also play an important role in supporting and educating staff and volunteers working in other settings beyond hospices, including care homes and hospitals. Every year LOROS trains over 2,000 health and social care professionals.

On Saturday 11th October, between 10am and 4pm the Hospice is opening its doors for the first time for the Heart of Art exhibition. This free event is a fascinating art trail which will weave its way through our incredible Hospice enabling visitors to learn about the unique services we provide in different settings. All the paintings and photographs have been donated by talented local artists and will be for sale.

Jo Kavanagh, Director of Care Services said: “Hospice Care Week is a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of hospice care and to promote the wide range of services that we provide for our local community.

“We hope people will realise that hospice care is more diverse than they might first think and will become more aware of where else it is available, especially the support hospices offer to terminally ill people in their own homes.

“It’s for this reason that we’d like to ask people to come to our Heart of Art exhibition and help us spread the word about LOROS Hospice. Whatever you choose to do this Hospice Care Week, you can be sure you are making a difference to the lives of local people and their families who depend upon the free services that we provide.”

We also have a non-uniform/dress down day happening throughout Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland on Friday 10th October and a number of awareness stands throughout the city and county, details of these can be found at www.loros.co.uk/care
