The Chizit Flyers

The Chizit Flyers are a group of friends who do an annual 100 mile bike ride for charity.

Kerry Blankley, one of our education team staff here at LOROS (and who has never ridden any distance before!), rashly said she’d join them to commemorate a special birthday. Little did she realise that they would take her seriously - and so her training began for the 110 mile ride from Leicester to Hunstanton.

During her training Kerry told the group about the important care LOROS provide and they decided this should be the charity for which they fundraised this year.

The day of the ride eventually came and forecasts of torrential rain, electric storms and hail stones set the tone for a nervous 6am start. However, the weather decided to be unbelievably kind to them and they only had to bear 20 miles cycling in torrential rain.

They arrived at Hunstanton to beautiful sunshine and, more importantly, all their families, who had arrived to cheer them at the finish line. What was even better was the number of people holidaying who saw them arrive and told them of their experiences of LOROS and the amazing support they had received from them. At the time of writing this article, the group had received donations of £1,834.50 on their just giving page - there were lots of fun and a few tears on the way, but it was obviously very well worth it!

Diane Morris, LOROS Fundraising Manager, said: "The team did an amazing job, despite having to cycle through a massive rain storm at one point, and we are delighted that they raised so much money for LOROS. It is only with the help of our supporters and fundraisers that we can continue to provide care and support for our terminally ill patients, their families and carers.

"Well done to the team and a massive thank you from everyone at LOROS!"
