Julie’s sweet treat to LOROS

Julie and Mike Collett have been fundraising for LOROS since May 2011 and have raised and incredible £5007.38. This is equivalent to the cost of a nurse looking after our patients for more than 7 weeks and shows what an amazing difference Julie and Mike's fundraising is making to our patients and their families.

On Monday the 20th October, Julie organised a book and cake sale at Loughborough University, The School of Business and Economics where she works. It wasn’t the first time she'd done this, so the queue for the cakes was very long; everyone waited patiently for their favourite cakes and chocolates which had been homemade with love by Julie. It didn't take long before she could announce how much she'd made.

Julie said “The total is £492.99. We smashed it – it’s more than last year!”

Julie and Mike not only organise coffee mornings at their workplace in order to raise funds for LOROS but are very dedicated assistants at the Canal & Boat Festival, have collected money in Sainsbury’s and Morrisons and also sell raffle tickets during LOROS events. They have dressed up in a variety of costumes which have included Diamond Jubilee costumes, Santa and Elf, Mad Hatter and Alice in Wonderland as well as Willy Wonka and an Oompa Loompa. Mike even dressed up as Guy Fawkes and sat in a wheelbarrow for 2 hours! They feel that by dressing up they are giving something back to the public in exchange for their donation and it makes people smile.

And all of this is done for LOROS - what a couple!

Julie also said: “Watch this space… what will this crazy, LOROS loving couple, do next?”

Magdalena Korytkowska, Fundraising Co-ordinator at LOROS said: “It was fantastic to join Julie and Mike at The School of Business and Economics at Loughborough University and see the amazing things they do for LOROS. Julie’s cakes were wonderful and we are very grateful that she donated so much of her time to bake them all in order to organise a successful cake sale for the Hospice. It’s very much appreciated that they have decided to support LOROS. Thank you so much!"
