One of the biggest fireworks events in the county is nearing lift-off at Snibston Discovery Museum, near Coalville.

The fireworks spectacular at Snibston on Saturday, November 1 is being run by Leicestershire County Council in partnership with LOROS, our local hospice which cares for more than 2,500 people each year throughout Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The event is kindly being supported by The Fleet Auction Group, an innovative; trade only motor vehicle auction whose head office is situated just a stone’s throw from Snibston Discovery Museum.

Richard Blunt, the county council’s cabinet member for museums, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support the exceptional work being done by LOROS and I’m sure there’ll be thrills for all the family to enjoy."

Laura Betts, Fundraiser at LOROS said: “It’s so exciting that two of the county’s largest fireworks events have now combined. Previously we have held our event at several different venues but it just made more sense to join forces with Snibston and create one huge, spectacular event. We have twice the support, twice the expertise and double the amount of creative ideas; it’s going to be an incredible show."

Doors open at 5pm for the event, with singer-songwriter Jersey Budd launching the activities at 5.30pm before the bonfire is lit at 6.45pm.

There will then be a tribute to R & B superstar Rihanna at 7pm before gates close at 7.45pm which is just ahead of the choreographed fireworks show which will see dazzling effects and music telling the story of a ‘journey through the ages’.

The fireworks show will feature music from throughout the decades – the likes of the Dam busters March, Elvis and Abba –interspersed with some of the iconic moments in recent British history.

Also lined up are fairground rides and food, with free entry to Snibston Discovery Museum, including the Battledress exhibition which looks at the impact of the First World War on women’s fashions.

Tickets are priced at £5 (advance), £7 (on the gate) and under-threes go free. There’s also a family-of-four ticket which must be booked in advance and will cost £18.

They are available at www.snibston.com or by emailing snibston@leics.gov.uk or calling (01530) 278444.

LOROS shops are also selling tickets as well - click here to find your nearest branch - as well as being available from tourist information centres in Ashby and Swadlincote, www.goleicestershire.com and at Hermitage Leisure Centre, Whitwick, local libraries and Halls of Ibstock.

There is also a free shuttle bus service from 5pm outside the North West Leicestershire District Council offices in Whitwick Road, Coalville and the Argos store in the Belvoir Shopping Centre as there is no parking on site, except for disabled parking which needs to be booked in advance.
