A team of volunteers from British Gas visited LOROS Hospice last week to lend a hand creating “Willy Wonka” inspired props to be used at The LOROS Golden Ticket Ball this Saturday,8th November.

With thanks to the ongoing support from British Gas and other local companies The Marriott hotel at Grove Park is destined to be transformed into an incredible “chocolate factory” where, on Saturday, 300 lucky guests will be wined, dined and treated to fabulous entertainment, not to mention a few chocolates!

In preparation for the grand event, British Gas volunteers spent an entire day at LOROS creating enormous versions of Wonka chocolate bars and painting giant lollipops which had been kindly designed Alt textand created by local timber merchants Harlows and expert patternmakers Cross and Sansam.

Laura Betts, LOROS event organiser said; “The fantastic support we receive from local companies means that we can keep our costs low, ensuring that we can raise the maximum amount possible for our worthy cause. We were delighted when Loughborough based confectionary suppliers Hancock’s offered to donate giant candy canes and everlasting gobstoppers for all of our guests. Our Charity of the Year supporters Hawthorns Electrical have donated all of the lighting equipment and stage draping for the event, we have been so lucky! Having the team from British Gas to help build props has also saved us lots of money!”

LOROS are always on the lookout for teams of corporate volunteers to help with various projects ranging from sorting clothes in the warehouse to bag packing in local supermarkets. Laura said; “Corporate volunteering days can be a lot of fun and provide a great, low-cost team building opportunity whilst doing something amazing for your local Hospice”.

Rob Percy, volunteer and team leader at British Gas said; “Our business enables us to carry out two days of community work each year. LOROS is a superb local charity that many of us have had a personal experience with. It is extremely rewarding being able to help such an amazing cause. We had a great day at LOROS and can’t wait to go back!”.
