Christmas light switch on raises more than £600 for LOROS

Neil and Sarah Greenwell, who live in Coldstream Close in Hinckley invited people along to their recent Christmas Light switch on.

Neil said: "The evening went really well - there were many more people than we anticipated and the street was almost filled with people. We managed to collect £362.74 on the night, and with the just giving donations + gift aid, so far we have raised a grand total of £600.24. We are truly blown away by the generous response.

"I would like to take the opportunity to thank Bradgate Trees, next to Bradgate Park, who heard about what we were doing, and very kindly donated our tree for free this year, which meant another £60 in the pot!

"I have done charity work in the past but I wanted to give something back to LOROS. They really do make people as happy as they can in the last few months of their lives and they looked after my aunt, Christine Malen, before she died in May 2013. Christmas was her favourite time of the year so we wanted to do something to remember her and raise money for the Hospice, because without donations they wouldn’t be able to do what they do.

Adrian Walker, Senior Fundraiser at LOROS, said: "Neil and Sarah have spent around £1,000 of their own money on lights and electrics to transform their house into a light spectacular and will be funding the whole thing - including the electricity to power the lights - themselves.

"We are full of admiration for their commitment, both in time and money, and can't thank them enough for their wonderful gesture."

The lights will be on every evening from now until 31st December, so please go along and support their efforts if you can. You can also donate on-line by visiting their Just Giving page.
