Fashion and glamour combined at Leicester Racecourse at a charity event to celebrate Ladies Day at Royal Ascot.

Hats galore were on show as well-dressed guests gathered at the Oadby venue for the event, which raised nearly £5,000 for LOROS hospice.

The Ladies Day Ascot Experience package included live screening of the races from the Berkshire course via giant plasma screens, a glass of fizz on arrival and a four-course lunch, as well as the chance to snap up a few new purchases at a variety of pop-up shops on the racecourse.

It also included entertainment and an award for best dressed man and woman.

About 100 people attended the day, the first of its kind for the Groby Road, Leicester Hospice.

Racecourse manager Rob Bracken said: “The team at Leicester Racecourse are delighted to be working with LOROS this year.

“We are extremely proud to be associated with the charity that is celebrating 30 years of caring for our community.”

LOROS fundraiser and event organiser Laura Betts said: “The day was absolutely fantastic.

“We had such great feedback from everyone who was there.

“Everyone really made an effort with their outfits and looked like they were all having a brilliant time.

“It went so well, we’re hoping to make this an annual event now.”

Miss Leicestershire Holly Desai attended the event and judged the best dresses competition. “I had such a lovely day,” she said.

“It was tough judging the best dressed competition though – especially the men, but in the end I couldn’t resist choosing the gent in the Union Jack waistcoat.”

If you were lucky enough to purchase tickets for the event, take a look at the photographs kindly taken by Sharon, owner of the Lens Butterfly and see if you can find yourself and your friends. Sharon has very kindly said that she will send free high resoluton photographs by email to anyone who requests one.

We will upload details of next year's event as soon as they are confirmed - we urge you to book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.
