Today, LOROS Hospice is launching its 30 For 30 campaign, to mark three decades since the Groby Road charity opened its doors and welcomed its first ever patient.

The campaign, which is in association with the Leicester Mercury, will take place throughout September, the same month the hospice officially opened in 1985.

From September 1 to 30, people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are being asked to help celebrate LOROS' big three-oh, while raising awareness of the hospice, by doing 30 things and/or raising £30.

Whether it is reading 30 books, swimming 30 lengths of the pool, completing a 30-hour danceathon, or walking 30 dogs to raise money, everyone can get involved with the campaign.

From footballers to students, to Guides and Brownies, absolutely anyone is being encouraged to make LOROS the charity of their choice this September.

LOROS chief executive John Knight said: "This is such an exciting year for LOROS and we want the whole of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to be involved.

"Turning 30 is a huge milestone for the hospice and LOROS has developed so much over the past three decades – it's extraordinary to think we've gone from having just a dozen beds to more than 30.

"Over the years, LOROS has become a big part of the community and we want everyone to help us celebrate turning 30.

"So get your thinking caps on, get fundraising and join in the fun this September."

Each year, LOROS Hospice supports more than 2,500 terminally ill adults and their families and carers across Leicester, Leicester and Leicestershire.

Leicester Mercury editor Kevin Booth said: "We are delighted to be supporting this September's 30 For 30 campaign to help raise funds and awareness for LOROS.

"In some way or another, the incredible work the hospice does has touched a lot of people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland – it's only right that everyone, including us, get involved.

"We're looking forward to sharing everybody's fund-raising efforts over the month."

Over September, LOROS Hospice wants to hear from everybody who is getting involved with their campaign. If you are thinking of organising an event or would like more information, e-mail the address below.

Remember to upload all of your photos, videos and fundraising efforts on social media, using the hashtag #LOROS30

Every day throughout September, the campaign will have daily coverage in the Mercury.

This will include stories from patients, families, friends, carers, LOROS staff members and volunteers who are all happy to share their experiences of the hospice. We want to hear from as many people as possible and they can be people who have been touched by LOROS hospice at any point over the past 30 years. If you want to share your story, e-mail: stories@loros.co.uk
