Volunteers needed for this year’s LOROS Twilight Walk

Ladies, if you’re walking the Twilight Walk this year, then don’t leave the men in your life at home, instead, encourage them to volunteer.

LOROS Hospice are desperate to secure around 40 more volunteers for this year’s event, which is taking place on Saturday 9th April.

From those helping to set up on the evening, to those wanting to marshal the actual route, there really is a job for everyone.

Phil Leeson and his wife, Rachel, have already signed up to volunteer at this year’s event.

“This will be the second time we’ve volunteered at the LOROS Twilight Walk; we were there helping out last year and although we got soaked from the rain, it didn’t dampen our volunteering spirits,” said 59-year-old Phil, of Earl Shilton.

“It’s a great night to be part of and you’re always guaranteed a laugh; the ladies taking part clearly really enjoy themselves.”

Daughter, Sophie Jarvis died at LOROS in 2012, at the age of 28.

“Giving up our time is our way of giving something back to LOROS,” added Phil.

“We didn’t realise just how much it costs to keep the Hospice running, so volunteering is the least we can do to support."

The event, which is being hosted by Gem 106 presenter Jennie Longdon, begins at 7.30pm, starting and ending at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.

The route will snake through the city centre, through Jubilee Square, past the High Cross Shopping Centre, Town Hall and Victoria Park.

LOROS Fundraising Co-ordinator Laura Fitzsawyer, who is organising the event, said: “Men, if the women in your life are taking part in this year’s Twilight Walk, then don’t worry, we’ve got a job for you too.

“Why not come along and support LOROS yourself, by sparing a few hours and lending a hand on the evening.”

Hollyoaks star and LOROS Ambassador Charlie Clapham will be Prince Charming on the night, which has a fairy-tale princess theme.

“Events like these wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful volunteers,” added Laura.
