Thank you for raising £150,000 from our Outdoor Donation Stations

Thank you for supporting our LOROS Outdoor Donation Stations for the past three years.

All the items we received were either sold in one of LOROS' 28 charity shops or recycled and sent to Africa and Eastern Europe. Lower grade items are used in industry - for example, as industrial cleaning wipes for the car industry.

An average bag donation is estimated to be valued at £25 which could pay for an hour of care for one of our inpatients.

The 6,000 bags donated via our outdoor stations have raised an estimated £150,000 and could pay for approximately 6,000 hours of patient care or the annual cost of us providing care on our ward for approximately 22 patients!

Elaine Godber, Corporate and Community Relations Co-ordinator at LOROS said: "In an effort to increase our income for patient care we have decided not to continue with the Outdoor Donation Stations but to focus on siting Indoor Donation Stations or hosting more Day Donation Stations. Garden centres such as Palmers at Enderby and Ullesthorpe and Glebe (now trading as Cherry Lane) at Countesthorpe, have agreed to host regular Day Donation Stations instead.

"The first ones are being scheduled for Spring 2017. Please watch out for these dates and take the opportunity to bring your donated bags on a given day and support the companies who are supporting us.

Derry’s nursery at Cossington and Charnwood College at Loughborough, along with other sites, have agreed to host an Indoor Donation Station instead and they will work exactly as before, but under cover.

Elaine added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the companies and organisations who have supported us by siting an Outdoor Donation Station and to the staff and local community who so generously donated to them.

"Please continue to support LOROS by donating pre-loved clothes and other items with the wonderful companies who do so much to support the Hospice."

If you know of any company or organisation that you think might like to host an indoor or Day Donation Station, please contact elainegodber@loros.co.uk
