A terminally ill grandma from Hinckley was given a “real birthday treat” when the Full Monty paid a visit to the hospice caring for her.

Cancer battler Isabel Robinson celebrated her 80th birthday in style when the cast of the popular production visited LOROS Hospice as part of their nationwide tour.

Isabel, a day therapy patient at the Leicester centre, was serenaded by Hollyoaks star Chris Fountain, Anthony Lewis from Emmerdale, and actor Andrew Dunn, otherwise known as Tony in BBC sitcom, Dinnerladies.

“It was a wonderful surprise,” she said.

“Well, what can I say, they were all very handsome. It was a real birthday treat and definitely one to remember.”

The cast sang Happy Birthday to Isabel, before the grandma-of-eight enjoyed a slice of cake, a glass of wine and a photo with the crew.

Half-a-dozen members of the cast visited the Hospice altogether, meeting patients, their families, staff and volunteers, both in day therapy and on the ward.

Mr Lewis said: “It was an absolute pleasure to visit LOROS and I was incredibly humbled by the fantastic welcome we received.

“It is very easy to make the presumption that it would be a very sad and negative environment, for obvious reasons, however, it was an incredibly positive place and the work done to make that happen is quite amazing.

“Everybody, from the receptionists and the nurses, to the admin department and fundraising staff all do an incredible job and I am so pleased I got to see it.

“I congratulate LOROS on what they do and long may it continue.”

The Full Monty, which also features soap star Gary Lucy from The Bill. was shown at De Montfort Hall in Leicester earlier in the month.
