An army of more than 1,800 pink ladies marched through Leicester city centre on Saturday night to raise money for LOROS at the Hospice’s annual Twilight Walk.

The event, which first launched back in 2010, had a record amount of women signed up this year and has raised in excess of £40,000 so far.

This year’s breath-taking balloon release saw the skies above Leicester City’s King Power Stadium turn a shade of pink, before participants snaked through streets of the city, as the sun set.

The streets were lined with volunteers marshalling the route, with entertainment points dotted around the city, which not only kept spirits high but also raised even more awareness throughout Leicester too.

LOROS Event Co-ordinator Laura Fitzsawyer said: “This year’s event was a roaring success, with nearly double the amount of women taking part this time round.

“It was quite overwhelming to see women of all ages, including mothers, daughters, grandmas and friends turn Leicester pink, as they paraded round the city in their Twilight Walk T-shirts.”

Hosting this year’s event was award-winning magician, Romany and in keeping with this year’s myths and magic theme, she entertained participants with her mesmerising magic show.

As well as the Gem stars, the EAGA Gospel Choir, Sambando, Dhol Drummers, Vikings of Middle England and stilt walkers, also entertained participants as they warmed up for the event.

Elaine Duffin, who took part in this year’s Twilight Walk said: “We had such a great night, the atmosphere was fantastic, every single woman there seemed to have the biggest smile on their faces.

“The balloon release really was magnificent; it was almost magical watching the sky fill up with pink balloons.

“Best of all, I was able to bring along our pet dog Oscar, who enjoyed the night just as much as we did, he even had his very own magical fancy dress.

“While I’m a keen supporter of LOROS, this was the first time I took part in the event and I loved it so much, I’m looking forward to next year already.”

The theme for next year’s walk is yet to be revealed, with the LOROS fundraisers to announce it in the near future.

In the meantime, if you would like to take part in a similar event, then sign up now for this year’s LOROS Colourfun Mile, which is fun for all of the family and is taking place on Wednesday 7th June.
