A 70-year-old mother and her daughters will be jumping 13,000 feet from a plane in memory of her husband after he died at LOROS Hospice.
Mary Moran, Carmel Mannix, Michelle Moran, along with a dozen other members of her family, will be taking to the skies on Saturday 16th September.
The group will be completing the skydive in memory of Carmel’s father and Mary’s husband, 75-year-old Tommy, who passed away at LOROS nearly a year ago after battling lung cancer.
“We wanted to show our appreciation for all that LOROS did for us, not just for dad but the whole family,” said 35-year-old, mother-of-two Carmel.
“Completing the skydive will be a really special event for all of us and we get to raise money for the Hospice too.
“We spoke about doing he skydive in front of dad, I know he’d be extremely proud of us for doing it.”
Tommy was transferred to the LOROS ward in November last year, after being diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013.
“Dad was at ease at LOROS” added teacher, Carmel.
“Anything dad needed was not a problem, all of the staff were so approachable and helpful.” Carmel’s mother, Mary, said that Tommy will be in all of their minds when they’re completing the skydive in just a few weeks’ time.
“LOROS were just fantastic,” she said.
“They couldn’t have done more for us.
“It’s great that there’s a whole group of us doing it in Tommy’s memory.”
Carmel and her family have help a number of fundraising events for LOROS since Tommy died, with a target of £4,500 in mind to raise in total.
