The annual Light up a Life event will take place on 2nd December, giving you the opportunity to remember your loved one this Christmas.

David Allen, 81 from Oakham, will be remembering his wife Rose at the special service. The couple were married to for 57 years, and have three children, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Rose was 77 when she started to suffer from backache, and after several visits to her doctor, she was diagnosed with cancer.

“We were in a daze, it didn’t feel real,” said David.

Following the devastating news that Rose was terminally ill, David says he and his wife had tried to talk about David’s life without Rose.

David, who has helped to promote the event after his wife died at LOROS last year said: “We used to discuss going on the Polar Express, the two of us, I said I would catch a later train. We prepared each other for the inevitable. Every day is difficult without Rose, but at Christmas it is especially hard.

“That’s why it’s important to come together, and share this special time with others in a similar position. We may all be strangers, but we all have something in common. LOROS took care of my beautiful Rose, as they have taken care of many other families.”

Dr Nik Kotecha OBE, Chief Executive Officer of Morningside Pharmaceuticals, which is a headline sponsor of the Light up a Life campaign, said: “At Morningside, family is at the heart of our business, so it’s a privilege for us to support this campaign once more, as we have done for the past two years.

“Whether you’ve lost a loved one, or would just like to come along and be part of the lovely festive service, please join us at this year’s Light up a Life event.”

Light up a Life provides people with the opportunity to honour and remember loved ones by celebrating their life at a special remembrance service.

As well as being a time for reflection and peace in what can be a hectic festive period, you can sponsor a light on the Hospice’s Christmas tree in memory of your loved one.

Their name will also be entered into a Light up a Life Book of Remembrance which will be on display in the chapel at the Hospice and will be there throughout Christmas.

If you are unable to attend the service you are most welcome to visit the Hospice to see the lights shining brightly on the tree until the first week in January.

While the service will be taking place on the Hospice grounds, outside, the Hospice will be open for those that wish to visit the chapel.

Those wanting to sponsor a light can now donate online up until 27th November, if they want their loved ones name added to the Remembrance Book too.

This year’s event takes place on Sunday 2nd December from 4.30pm in the Hospice grounds.

If people don’t want to attend the service but would like to remember a loved one by donating to the Light up a Life campaign, they can do so either online or by calling the LOROS fundraising team, up until 31st January.

To sponsor a light, or for more information on the event visit loros.co.uk/LUAL or call (0116) 231 8431
