Patients and their families were bowled over on Monday when members of Leicestershire County Cricket Club visited the Hospice.

Fifteen member of the squad brought festive fun as they chatted with patients in Day Therapy. Bowler Gavin Griffiths said: “This is the second year I’ve come down to LOROS at Christmas and it’s a really happy place. It was great chatting to the patients and nurses. Some of them knew a lot about cricket!”

Kenneth Schofield, who is a huge Leicester cricket fan and a Day Therapy patient at LOROS, said: “It was absolutely fantastic. I haven’t made it down to Grace Road all year. I’ve missed it so much, so this couldn’t have happened at a better time. My wife won’t believe it!”

Players Aaron Lilley, Aadil Ali, Will Davis, Harry Dearden and coach Paul Nixon bought a bat signed by the first XI which will be auctioned off to raise funds for the charity. Cricket fan Neil Austin, who organised the visit and also volunteers as a driver at LOROS, said: “It was lovely for the players to visit. The club are very supportive of LOROS and have done a few collections for us at the ground. Making the time to visit at this busy time meant a lot.”
