Volunteer opportunities
It’s been awesome to see all the positive comments and public engagement with Stomp Round Leicester. If you haven’t had a chance to get out and follow the trail- it’s definitely a must! We have a team of volunteers helping with the trail, having a chat with passers by and helping us sell merchandise too!
There’s still time to get involved by volunteering some time over the summer, you can register directly below.
You can follow the trail by downloading our app to follow the trail, unlock interactive features, discover all of the Elephants and collect rewards along the way! It’s your ultimate guide to a trunk-load of fun around Leicester this summer! Even better, every download helps to support LOROS Hospice. Find out more about how you can download the app below.
Have you visited yet?

Thanks to a kind donor who has come forward, we are managing to retain our Volunteer Home-Visiting service for a few precious days a week.
It will be scaled back significantly and rely on just one post, but nevertheless we are delighted that it has been possible to keep such a valued and well-loved asset, no matter how limited. Our Volunteer Home Visiting is a lifeline for carers, giving them a few precious hours of respite a week, and peace of mind that the patient is safe and being well cared for. It is a huge relief to all of us, and a very welcome ray of positivity amid the gloom.
It's also a concrete reminder that funding can change everything.
Thank you to everyone for the support to both staff and volunteers affected by this reduction in service.
A few weeks ago, we attended Demontfort University’s Summer Garden Party, hosted by DMU Engagement teams to bring voluntary sector organisations together to celebrate the success of students engaged in volunteering across Leicestershire. LOROS was highlighted as DMU’s official Volunteering Partner. DMU had a high volume of nominations for Volunteer of the Year and after much shortlisting, we were proud to be there to see Nnana Uchendu, LOROS Ward Companion receive a very deserving winning applause!
On receiving the award, Nnana Uchendu, Ward Companion said,
“Volunteering at LOROS has been a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a supportive and caring environment. Being a ward companion has allowed me to engage meaningfully with patients and staff, while developing key skills in communication, empathy, and teamwork. The experience has complimented my studies in Mental Health and Wellbeing and has been both professionally and personally enriching. For any student considering volunteering, I’d highly recommend it. The LOROS team is incredibly supportive and flexible, making it easy to give your time in a way that’s manageable and impactful.”
Are shell suits and legwarmers making a comeback?! Well done to everyone that took part in this years back to the 80’s Twilight Event! Here are some pictures from the day if you missed it!
Could you be our star raffle seller?
As the streets of Leicester come alive with Stomp Round Leicester, our vibrant art trail celebrating 40 years of care, we are encouraging our supporters to join the fun and take a giant step towards winning BIG!
This year, as part of our anniversary celebrations, LOROS is thrilled to run our BIG Birthday Raffle – your chance to win one of three incredible cash prizes, including our grand prize of £10,000!
By merging our usual spring and autumn raffles – we have been able to offer a JUMBO prize, to celebrate 40 years of LOROS and also in line with our summer fundraising campaign of Stomp Round Leicester – aiming to raise a MAMMOTH amount!
How can you help?
Don’t forget to buy your own tickets from the social area café, the shop in reception or any LOROS shop.
Can you encourage your friends, family and networks to take part and buy tickets? Do you know of a location or event that we can go to sell tickets? Is there somewhere you could stick up a flyer or leave some in your local café, pub, community centre etc? Are you part of a group or club where you could sell some tickets?
We are happy to allocate you a few paper tickets to sell yourself – just contact lottery@loros.co.uk and we can get this sorted for you. Another really easy way to support our BIG Birthday Raffle is by promoting it on social media! You can do this by sharing our LOROS page posts.
A BIG thank you for your support!

Following recent increases in measles cases around the country and published guidance from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) regarding a recent measles outbreak, LOROS would like to encourage all staff and volunteers to ensure that they are up to date with all their vaccinations, where clinically indicated it is appropriate for them. This is both to protect yourselves but also to protect our vulnerable patient group.
For further information regarding measles please go to https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/measles/ or please feel free to talk to Michelle Clark (Matron ext 6083).
