A POPULAR family event in Harborough which gives families a chance to get to the beach without having to travel was given added authenticity by rain that did not stop play.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the town centre hosted Harborough by the Sea, a beach scene in the centre of town, for the eighth year running.

Deck chairs laden with people of all ages surrounded great sand pits that harboured highly excitable children.

Market Harborough Building Society, which provided its own stall, which took in donations for LOROS, gave out free buckets and spades, implements that were then used for the sacramental task of creating sand castles – which were judged with prizes awarded for the best.
