It’s Wacky Races as business executive raise funds for charities

A MILK float, beach buggy, canal boat and horse and trap were among the wacky modes of transport which took two executives on a 70-mile charity quest around the county.

Chris White and Mark Robinson, chief executives of the Hinckley & Rugby and Market Harborough building societies respectively, visited all six building society HQs in Leicestershire on Friday using an array of unusual vehicles.

Their challenge - part of the annual Grant Thornton Executive Quest - was aiming to raise thousands of pounds for LOROS and PROSTaid.

The pair arrived at The Melton Building Society HQ in Leicester Road on the back of a tractor on Friday morning. After a welcome coffee and short break from the wet and cold weather it was time for them to get into a steam-powered car for the second half of their journey.

Mr White said: “It’s been a bit cold and wet but people have been so fantastic and supportive.”

Mr Robinson added: “It’s a bit of fun but what we’re really here for is to raise money for two fantastic local charities.”

The duo has already raised more than £5,000 but hope to raise even more.
