The event took place this afternoon, (November 7), at DMU when hundreds of people danced and mimed to Bonnie Tyler's 80's rock classic Holding Out for A Hero.

?The record attempt was organised by the DMU vice-chancellor, professor Dominic Shellard as part of the Executive Quest Challenge which raises money for LOROS and ProstAid.

Bonnie rang DMU from Swansea and said: "I think it's wonderful you are using this song to raise money for two great causes. I want to wish everyone the best of luck. I hope they have lots of fun. Good luck everyone."

The challenge requires chief executives to do something extraordinary that pushes them out of their comfort zone.

Everyone who took part was asked to donate £1, or more if they wished, which will go towards local hospice LOROS and Leicestershire and Rutland prostate cancer charity, PROSTaid.

Rob Banner from PROSTaid was one of those taking part, he said: "It's great. It must be a world first. I can't think of any other time where a vice-chancellor of a university has organised a charity flashmob like this.

"It shows he's in tune with his students as well. He hopes to raise around £5,000 but that's in the lap of the gods, we will have to wait and see."

The fundraiser was also filmed and will be posted on YouTube soon.

As well as students and staff, DMU enlisted the help of real life heroes, including Leicester County Cricket Team, Leicester Tigers, Leicestershire police and representatives from LOROS and PROSTaid.
