The chaplaincy department at the hospice recently commissioned local artist Liam Hadjipetrou to design and create a memory tree to be situated in the chapel/prayer room.

Relatives are able to write the name of those who have died, along with a message, on the back of a specially designed leaf and then tie this on to one of the tree branches.

The tree was first used at the Thanksgiving and Remembrance service held in October at LOROS.

These services are held three times a year to remember those who have died at the hospice.

Andrew Martin, part of the chaplaincy team at LOROS, completed a month long sponsored cycle to help raise money for the tree. “I would like to thank all those who sponsored me; it is very moving to see the tree with so many leaves and messages on it. Several relatives have said how helpful and therapeutic they have found the tree”.

Andrew cycled to and from his home in Measham to LOROS every day during August – a total of 800 miles. “I was very lucky with the weather and only picked up three punctures (all on the same day!)”

Donations can still be made – payable to “LOROS” Groby Rd Leics LE3 9QE.
