More than 200 dogs and their owners took part in a sponsored walk around Leicester's Abbey Park to raise money for LOROS.

The Paws 4 a Cause event on Sunday was the hospice's first major fundraiser of the year. It is hoped it will raise up to £15,000 for the Groby Road hospice.

Starting at the bandstand, participants walked a 4km circuit of the park and cricket oval.

LOROS's senior fundraiser Christian Weikert-Picker said: "It was a leisurely, friendly event, walking around the edge of the park. We had 50 more dogs than last year, which was the first time we held the event.

"All sorts of breeds were represented, from big lumbering dogs to little whippets. It was a very successful day."

Each dog was given a dog tag and goody bag on completion of the walk and there were prizes for the most sponsorship money raised and handed in.
