The friends and family of a woman who died of cancer last year are holding a fundraising disco in her memory.

Gail Tacey died in October, aged 48, and her friends want to commemorate her life and raise funds for the LOROS hospice in Leicester, where she was cared for in her final days.

Friends Karen Carter, Jo Smith, Jo Hill, Anita Fountain and Maxine Saywell, along with Gail’s husband Ian, her mother Dawn Hallam and her brother David Hallam, are organising a charity disco, which will take place at Cottesmore Community Centre on Saturday, June 22, from 8pm onwards.

It will be all the more fitting a tribute because Gail and her friends used to attend discos at the centre when they were pupils at Casterton Community College and the music will be from the 1970s and 80s.

And two years ago, despite her illness, Gail was able to enjoy a school reunion there and was reunited with many friends she hadn’t seen for years.

During the evening, there will be a barbecue run by Ian and a raffle, which is being organised by Dawn.

The group is hoping local businesses will want to get involved in making the night a huge success by donating prizes.

Karen, of Cheviot Close, Oakham, said: “We just want to raise as much as we can, although any amount will make a big difference to the hospice, and remember Gail in a fun way.

“A lot of people knew Gail and we hope they will come and make it a good night.

“She was such a beautiful person, both in picture and in nature, and we want to remember her.

“If it goes well we would look into making it an annual event.”

Tickets cost £5 and are available to pre-book by calling Karen on 01572 755131.

People can pay on the night but should call Karen to reserve a place.

Businesses who would like to donate a raffle prize can also call Karen.
