Generous pensioner Eric Reynolds celebrated his 80th birthday by raising £1,200 for charity.

The grandfather, from Seagrave, near Loughborough, had a big party but asked his 200 guests to bring raffle prizes instead of presents for him.

Eric then got his five grandchildren to help sell the raffle tickets, both at his house party and at a raffle night at the Sileby and District Conservative Club.

Eric's daughter, Mandy Widdowson, said: "When all the prizes had been sold, Dad had raised £1,200.

"He wanted to mark his birthday with a celebration, but also wanted to try to help a charity.

"Dad chose LOROS because they helped look after my mum, Irene, when she had cancer 15 years ago.

"This way, Dad had his big bash, everyone had a great time and money was raised for a very deserving local cause."
