Cyclists from local law firm Edward Hands and Lewis took part in an epic bike ride this Saturday to raise money for LOROS.
Sixteen members of staff, family and friends took part in the 86 mile journey from Leicester to Skegness.
Some team members had undertaken the challenge in 2012 and knew what to expect whereas others were new to the test.
The route, which goes through Melton Mowbray, Grantham, and Boston following the A52, includes some steep hills and miles of flat road.
Most riders aim for around the 6 hour mark but some of the team got lost along the way, a few only adding several minutes to their time but one detour so extreme the rider cycled over 100 miles in total – but still made it.
Edward Webb, Solicitor at Edward Hands and Lewis, said: “This is the second time I have cycled the 86 miles to Skegness although this time it was slightly longer due to a detour along the A16 to Grimsby. Whilst this was demoralising as it was about an extra 10 miles it was a surprisingly nicer ride than the A52. All in all it was 6 hours 3 minutes for me from clock tower to clock tower, and I was happy with that.”
In the build up to the challenge all the riders trained hard and on the day all sixteen riders completed the challenge with varying times.
Jason Hathaway, Group Director at Edward Hands and Lewis, said: “I was one of only a few that went the correct way all the way to Skegness! It was harder this year with a head wind and we left a bit late so this did have an impact on support and led to a few wrong turns. It is fair to say everybody did a fantastic job and no doubt we will look to do it again next year.”
All the money raised for the bike ride will go to LOROS, the firm’s chosen charity for 2013. They have already raised several hundred pounds through sponsorship and donations are still coming in to the firm after the weekend.
